THE BETRAYED MELODY (AFTER R.B.)

Concept: This work is part of a series started in 2017 with "Tre riflessioni armoniche in miniatura" for percussion. These works originate from pre-existing musical ideas gathered from the history of music, which are reinvented with a compositional method that begins with superficial arrangement techniques to achieve a systematic subversion of the relevant episode. The betrayal of Robert Burns' melody ("Green grow the rashes") develop over two layers: the first explores the relationship between voice and accompaniment (as monodic and polyphonic instrument); the second deconstructs the melody itself, dressing it in different harmonies, rhythmic changes, and added notes to the point of rendering it completely invisible by the end of the piece.
