BARACCO / CUPAIUOLO
“Interno Abbado” [2015]
Original soundtrack live-on-stage
Orchestration: accordion
Director: Andrea Baracco
Starring: Giandomenico Cupaiuolo
Synopsis: Rocked by the sound of an accordion, a man dresses as a woman. A simple dress, a couple of necklaces, and a fan. Having lost track of her husband, Rosa Abbado wears clothes that seem too tight-fitting; she smudges her teeth while putting on lipstick. Inspired by the final sequence of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, where the protagonist assumes the appearance of his mother, it's a show played on the grotesque. The entire balance of the stage writing, until then played on paradox and bitter ridicule, suddenly turns into a thriller. Rosa isn't Mrs. Abbado, but Carlo, her husband. Robbed by his wife of his own skin, he wanted to take it back, embodying her clothes.
